Different Yoga Styles
An Ancient Tradition Evolving Over Time
The traditional yoga style taught in ancient texts is Hatha Yoga. However, most other yoga styles we know today have evolved over the past century, adapting to different needs and lifestyles.
The roots of all these variations trace back to Krishnamacharya, known as the father of modern yoga.
-
The Global Spread of Hatha Yoga:
During a yogic demonstration, Krishnamacharya’s main student went missing, so he brought B.K.S. Iyengar, a family member, onto the stage. Iyengar later introduced Hatha Yoga to the world, becoming one of its most influential teachers.
-
The Birth of Ashtanga Yoga:
While teaching young boys at a college in India to help balance their energy, Krishnamacharya had Pattabhi Joisby his side. When their paths diverged, Pattabhi Jois developed and popularized Ashtanga Yoga worldwide.
-
The Evolution of Vini Yoga, Vinyasa, and Yoga Therapy:
In Krishnamacharya's later years, his students were often older individuals or people with physical conditions.
His son T.K.V. Desikachar, along with his students A.G. Mohan and Srivasta Ramaswami, developed Vini Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, and Yoga Therapy, focusing on personalized yoga practices tailored to individual needs.

Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga is a traditional yoga discipline.
Swatmarama, an Indian yogi and author of Hatha Yoga Pradipika, defines Hatha Yoga as:
"Hatha Yoga is the process of purifying the body and mind for meditation."
-
Balancing the Body and Energy
The postures in Hatha Yoga are specifically designed to open the spine and primary energy channels, allowing energy to flow freely and initiating a process of transformation. -
Finding Strength and Balance in Stillness
In Hatha Yoga classes, each posture is held as steadily as possible.
The focus is on rooting down, deepening, and aligning the body. Holding a pose for 2-3 minutes cultivates discipline, allowing both the body and mind to experience a deeper transformation. -
Hatha: The Union of the Sun and Moon
The word "Hatha" is derived from:-
"Ha" (Sun, Yang, Masculine energy) → The power to challenge, say no, and take action.
-
"Tha" (Moon, Yin, Feminine energy) → The power of surrender, saying yes, and staying present with what is.
-
Hatha Yoga is the path to balancing and integrating these opposites.
With consistent practice, strength and flexibility improve, and the harmony between body and mind deepens.
Each posture teaches us how to balance effort and surrender in both practice and life.
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a yoga practice rooted in Taoist philosophy and originating from China.
In modern life, we are constantly in motion—rushing from one place to another, always striving to keep up. This fast-paced lifestyle disrupts the balance between mind and body.
Yin Yoga, on the other hand, teaches us to slow down, stay present, and reach deep into the connective tissues for relaxation and release.
-
Deep Stretching and Body Awareness
In Yin Yoga, we use our body weight to fully relax the muscles, allowing for a deeper stretch.
Poses are held for an extended period, creating a massage-like effect on the deep tissues and calming the nervous system. -
Inner Journey and Self-Discovery
Remaining in a pose for several minutes provides an opportunity for deep self-reflection.
We learn to observe our emotions, embrace stillness, and connect with our true feelings. -
Balancing Yin & Yang Energy
If you have a fast-paced, high-energy lifestyle, Yin Yoga helps counterbalance excessive Yang energy, bringing you back to a state of stillness and awareness.
In this way, it serves as a deeply therapeutic practice.
What to Expect in a Yin Yoga Class?
In a Yin Yoga session, we hold each pose for 3 to 5 minutes, allowing the body to gradually release tension and deepen the stretch.
The focus is on breathing, stillness, and mindfulness, rather than movement.
With the guidance of the instructor, you will learn to let go, embrace relaxation, and create space in both your body and mind.

Ashtanga Yoga
Ashtanga Yoga is a disciplined and dynamic yoga system where asanas are practiced in a specific sequence.
-
Structure of the Series
The Ashtanga practice begins with Surya Namaskar A and B (Sun Salutations).
Then, each pose is held for five breaths, following this sequence:-
Standing Poses
-
Seated Series
-
Inversions
-
Finishing Series
-
-
Learning Process & Motivation
Memorizing the sequence encourages students to maintain a daily practice, fostering consistency and self-discipline.
Physical progress becomes easily observable, and once all the poses in a series are mastered, students advance to the next level. -
The Three Key Elements of Ashtanga
During Ashtanga Yoga practice:-
Ujjayi Pranayama – A powerful breath technique that helps regulate and direct breath flow.
-
Drishti (Gaze Focus) – The eyes focus on a designated point in each pose, enhancing concentration.
-
Bandhas (Energy Locks) – Internal energy locks are engaged to control and direct the body's energy.
-
This fluid, powerful, and invigorating practice not only strengthens the body but also cultivates self-discipline and mental clarity.
Chair Yoga
"My knees hurt, and I can't sit on the mat."
"I have joint problems, so yoga isn't for me."
"I'm older, and I can't attend regular classes."
If any of these thoughts sound familiar, Chair Yoga is for you!
This practice uses the support of a chair to build strength, increase flexibility, and improve body awareness in a gentle yet effective way.
Who Is It For?
Older adults and those with joint issues → Practice yoga safely without needing to sit on the floor.
Office workers → Chair Yoga helps prevent muscle weakness, poor posture, and fatigue caused by long hours of sitting.Sitting at a desk for hours weakens muscles, affects posture, and drains energy.
In this class, you will learn movements you can practice even while seated, allowing you to integrate yoga into your daily life.

Prenatal Yoga
Connect with your body, relax, and support yourself as you prepare for childbirth.
The primary goal of Prenatal Yoga is to prevent postural imbalances that can develop and become permanent during pregnancy.
The practice includes strengthening the muscles needed to carry the growing baby’s weight while also incorporating gentle stretches to relieve tension and discomfort.
Benefits of Prenatal Yoga
-
Posture Support & Strengthening: Strengthens the lower back, spine, and pelvic muscles to support the added weight.
-
Relaxation & Stress Reduction: During yoga, the parasympathetic nervous system is activated, helping the mother-to-be relax, unwind, and reduce stress—which in turn benefits the baby.
-
Better Breathing & Increased Oxygen Supply: Breathing exercises improve circulation, fill the body with oxygen, and contribute to the baby’s nourishment and development.
Kids Yoga
A journey of fun, movement, and imagination!
Kids Yoga is an engaging and playful practice where children mimic nature, human, and animal figures through yoga poses.
With the help of storytelling, children not only have fun but also strengthen their bodies while practicing yoga postures.
Benefits of Kids Yoga
-
Stronger & Healthier Bodies: Yoga poses build strength, enhance flexibility, and improve body awareness.
-
Relaxation & Focus: Proper breathing techniques help children reduce stress, calm their minds, and improve concentration.
-
Creativity & Playfulness: Storytelling and movement-based activities boost imagination, confidence, and self-expression.
In today’s world, children grow up in highly competitive environments. Kids Yoga creates a safe and enjoyable space away from this pressure, allowing them to relax while supporting their healthy physical and emotional development.

Restorative yoga
Experience deep relaxation, renewal, and inner balance.
Developed by B.K.S. Iyengar as a method for treating various ailments, Restorative Yoga is a practice designed to guide the body into deep rest and rejuvenation.
Through carefully designed posture sequences, the practice supports the reconstruction and healing of the body.
Benefits of Restorative Yoga
-
Deep Rest & Renewal: While the body is at rest, it rebuilds strength, reduces stress, and supports the spine, skeletal system, and internal organs.
-
Reserving & Restoring Energy: Unlike active practices, Restorative Yoga focuses on preserving and replenishing energy rather than expending it.
-
Supportive Props for Ultimate Comfort: The use of props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, and straps ensures full-body support, mental relaxation, and an increase in energy levels.
-
Breathwork & Circulatory Support: Guided breathing techniques enhance spinal health, nervous system function, hip and back release, lymphatic flow, and circulation, allowing deep tension to dissolve.
